TST : 1-on-1 Coaching : Extra Info

1-on-1 Soccer Coaching

Fast track your technical progress, your quality of touch and take your game to the next level.

1-on-1 coaching is run under the Technical Football Tuition banner as we use the TFT online resources (especially the TFT’s free online practice resource) to compliment the 1-on-1 sessions.

If 1-on-1 coaching is something you would like to do, but for whatever reason isn’t an option for you, then we highly recommend that you use the free TFT online resource [Link]. This resource will help you improve your technique and touch massively. It costs nothing other than the time and effort you are prepared to put into your development.

[Note : TFT is TST’s online development component, where as TST is the small group practical component that is run in Melbourne.]

The 1-on-1 coaching Golden Window : 11-14 years old

Based on 20 years of private coaching experience, it is clear that players between 11-14 years old benefit the most from 1-on-1 coaching. They have good maturity in regards learning and practicing, they don’t have too many bad habits to iron out (or if they do – it is easier to do) and they still have plenty of time to get things right.

Younger players [ 9 years old is the youngest age we would work with] still benefit from 1-on-1 coaching but their learning maturity means the development process is a little slower. 1-on-1 coaching is still very beneficial, as bad habits can be prevented from developing and a strong base for accelerated growth can be established prior to entering the golden window.

Older players can also benefit massively from private coaching, but when it is started late, lots of time is often spent getting rid of bad habits. Not all is lost however : Older players are better at taking in new information, can quickly apply it correctly and will often ‘practice at home’ to reinforce the 1-on-1s, and are more thoughtful about their development process. So older players can catch up on what they missed when younger, but the time they have to get things right is running out.

1-on1 : Benefits

1-on-1 sessions offer significantly more touches than a team session (and touches and development correlate very closely), and these touches can be tailored specifically to what a player needs.

  • The core skills (control, passing, ball striking, movement) could be the focus.
  • Or 1-on-1 sessions can be used to help develop :
    • A functional weak foot.
    • Game functional footwork (ball moving) patterns.
    • Dealing with balls in the air. (These will not be done at team training).
  • Agility and foot speed can be worked upon.
  • Defending techniques, tackling, wedging etc which my not be done at team training.

The benefits of 1-on-1 sessions are many and in long term can make a massive difference to a players level.

Session Duration, Location, Day, Time.

  • Session duration is normally 1 hour but can be longer if required.
  • Location, day and time : We will try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate your perfect location, day and time.

Who is the coach

  • The coach : Darren Carr :  Played semi-pro (Burton Albion FC) and professionally (Crystal Palace FC ) in England for a couple of years before going to university (representing British Universities while there). Darren moved to Australia from England, and has been a full time ‘private, small group and team soccer coach’ for over 20 years. Darren has privately coached players of all levels (beginners to professionals and including players who have represented Australia (Matilda's and U21s)) throughout this time. He is also B-license qualified not that this applies to private coaching. Currently, Melbourne’s pro clubs NPL squads (Victory, City & Western) and the girls Victoria NTC squads are full of players who Darren has worked with and helped achieve their goals of playing at the highest level possible in Melbourne.

1-on-1 Coaching T&Cs:

*A 10 session block locks in a full term of sessions, (pro-rata this if you start mid-term or if the term is less than 10 weeks). The block must be paid for in advance and runs in line with the school term. If you think you will miss too many sessions in a term, then this option may not suit you.

Do privates and get a free TST Spot

(Saturday Afternoon in Camberwell – check details on the home page).
When you purchase a ‘full term’ block (this is 10 sessions) of privates, you get a free TST spot.

Conditions apply

  • This free TST spot is only available with a ‘full term’ [10 session] block. Smaller blocks (like a 8 session block) that do not cover the full term or have missed session credits applied, do not come with a free TST spot (unless agreed in advance).
  • In the Full term block package, if you use the free TST spot, then 3 TST sessions act as a catch up for 1 missed private session (if you cancel the session). Other missed sessions (cancelled through no fault of your own) will ideally be caught up during the next holidays. Hopefully it is not that many.
  • If missed sessions can’t be caught up during the holidays, then they may be carried forward into next term (subject to a maximum of 2 sessions) but if this is done, then the free TST spot will then no longer be available (as it is only available when a full term block is purchased). If you want to do TST and private sessions, the cost will be the cheaper of a '10 session block' and a 'smaller block plus a TST spot'.
  • **The access to essential practice equipment (rebounders etc) is subject to availability. Ask for more details.
