Symmetrical development. That is, what ever happens on the strong side, also happens on the weak side. For a young player this type of development is critical.
When young all technical development is hard, so for young players, using the weak foot does not seem that much of a bigger hill to climb when compared against the strong foot.
It is a only when players are older, and a significant difference develops n the discomfort level between using the weak foot compared to the strong foot, will players start to fear and avoid using their weak foot.
So exercises like the one above if done from a young age, offer young developing players the opportunity to get plenty of repetition of game functional technique, and especially in regards to : Moving and passing the ball with the weak foot.
