A Model for Youth Development  : Individual Player Development.

Accelerate First Principles.

What is at the core of the accelerated learning process.

There are (at least) two ways to accelerate brain changes a.k.a. #neuroplasticity :

1) Errors : meaning a mismatch between what we want to accomplish and what we are currently doing is the signal by which the nervous system recognizes the need to rewire its own circuits. Those errors also inform the nervous system of exactly what needs to change.

This has a neuro-chemical basis. This makes sense. Why would our nervous system change if not for the chemically tagged mismatch?

2) A sense of urgency. Studies from the Knudsen Lab @stanford showed that : If learning is necessary in order to get ones ration of food (that is : survive), then plasticity is rapid and massive .

This too makes sense, as the brain is an adaptive organ. And it has a neuro-chemical basis; acetylcholine released from specific brain centers unleashes plasticity. And no, you can’t bypass 1and 2, simply by increasing acetylcholine globally.

It is circuit specific.

Coaches can create an environment for accelerated learning (which cannot just be fun, and in fact should offer a level of 'error based' discomfort),

but the actual learning however is ultimately in the players control. Only they can create the necessary sense of urgency to create change.
