Full On Squeeze

Mistakes trigger a full squeeze.

In a full on squeeze we are looking for a mistake by the opposition (especially by an OCB or OFB) high up the pitch.

A mistake might be a :

  • Bad pass (off target, to the wrong foot, in the air, bouncing etc) and press while the receiver attempts to recover the bad pass.
    • A bad pass that causes the receiver to face the wrong way (E.G: a OCB is forced to face into a corner and where from where it is hard to find a good pass out).
  • Bad first touch (too heavy/soft, bouncing, to a poor pitch position) and press while the receiver attempts to recover the bad touch.

Once the moment has been recognized and the squeeze is on, ALL PLAYERS need to get involved, constrict the space around the ball, and make all ways out really tight. If the ball is won, then the team who just lost the ball may counter press, so move the ball quickly once it is won.

SUMMARY :

  • A squeeze is always an option following a mistake from an opposition player but is especially effective if the OCB makes the mistake, as winning the ball high can reap high rewards.
