System of Play : Pictures

Pic #1 : Playing out from GK on a high press.

Remember the picture below only applies if the opposition have a high press on a goal kick. If it is not a goal kick, or the opposition does not press high on a goal kick, then the picture below does not apply. Also remember that if it is high press, the objective is not to play through it (although it may be necessary sometimes). It is to play over it (in as an intelligent way as possible) and try to get an advantage in a high position (inside 10 space), whilst staying defensively strong in low positions (quickly create a low block if necessary).

 

 

 Playing Out from a goal kick :  Part #1 : Hit the inside 10 space

Playing to a player in a low position (#3 or #6) only occurs when

the inside 10 space is not an option.

 

 

The video clip below has a moment where a team plays back to and out from the goal keeper. Analyze this moment and compare this to the 'pictures' and types of movement we use in out system of play. Look at :

  • Height and width of the CBs.
  • Height and width of the FBs.
  • The position and movement of the #6.
