Below you will find a series of simple pictures that look at 'Phases of play' and a 'System of play'.

Note : This is an 'example' system of play.  Each team needs a system that suits the types of players within the team.

As a general rule :

  • If a team has a high flat bock ( 2 or more players on the edge of the box [ wingers might join the #9 in a 3 player high flat block]) then find the space in the midfield and go long (unless a central player drops low (into #6 space) and can receive a pass without being under pressure).
