Pic #6 : High Flat Block

Sometimes the high Flat block won't be working well. May the O#6 is finding space in the 4v2, and is making it really hard to press the passes into the O#6.

Players need to adapt in real time. There are many things that can be tweaked.

One option is that the #wingers, #10 and #9 are narrower, and start to make the O#6 space tighter. This makes a pass to the O#6 a little less attractive, and the pass to the full back a little more attractive. The full back will have a little more time and space, but if we increase the work rate and intensity of movement we can still activate the trap on the O#FB.

Another option is to go three at back and push a CB into midfield and go Man on man in Midfield. This means that players do not need to go half and half. The midfield take all inside options off the table, and O#CBs can either go long, or play wide and into a trap. The danger is that we are man on man at the back. If the O#CB goes long, we need to drop and re-block, to make sure we win the second ball and create a low block if it is needed.

Another option is to make sure the ball goes to a O#CB who is poor in possession and then leave it up to him to stuff up. Hopefully he plays a predictable pass which allows us to activate the trap. This is looked at in the next picture.
