TST Coaching Agreement / TST Coaching Expectations :

Part #1 : What you need to know.

The most important thing we need from a coach at TST is professionalism : That is we need R.P.P.C:

  • Reliability : You must commit to the full (or rest of the) term before starting to coach at TST.

    • If you have to miss a session, make sure any sessions that you know you will miss during the term are highlighted at the start of the term (& this should not be many). If this is a problem, and if you are likely to regularly miss sessions on short notice, then TST coaching isn't the right fit for you.

  • Punctuality : You should never be late, unless it's absolutely unavoidable. It is a terrible look when kids are left coachless at the start of the session.

    • Poor punctuality is a sign of disrespect to the program and the kids being coach.

  • Presentability : You must look like a coach (wear all black as much as possible and TST logo stuff if you have it).

  • Communication : You need to communicate as early as possible about any issues you have with regards to your coaching availability throughout the term and future terms.

If the above is great then you will have no issues at TST (.....as long as you are also a good coach).

A good TST coach will need to :

  • Learn the TST footwork curriculum. It may require a bit of study and practice. Coaches need to learn this to ensure that all coaches are on the same page in terms of footwork, 1v1s, triangle (left and right) based positioning, first touch & passing, and how to teach it. There is a link below that will introduce you to this.

  • Paint a good picture of technique and how to use it.

  • Be creative when designing tech games ( that develop the ability to deal with 1v1 moments / pressure problems). ' Escape to space'.

    • Note : 1v1s are not about tricks and moves. 1v1s are about the use of available space and a 'race to space', and the understanding that space is what the game is all about, and that 1v1s are a 'cat and mouse' 'race to space' game between the attacker and the defender. At an advanced level footwork is done with the eyes off the ball. Bad players look down on the ball when moving it. Good players look ahead and see the pressure, the space, the options and the game.

    • Also, 1v1s does not mean you need to beat the defender, or even get past the defender. It is just that attackers need to work out what space they can use and what spaces they can't - and then get to the best space first.

  • PLEASE be actively engaged in the SSGs (2v2s,3v3s) so that the players feed off your positive energy.

  • Be nurturing, positive and inspiring to all players at TST.

Other than this you must be aware that ;

  • We need your current WWCC.

  • You are paid for coaching a full term. [You are not paid by the hour, session, day etc]. So if you leave mid term without this being known and agreed to at the start of the term, you will not be paid for any of the term you coach].

    • So with this said, the equivalent hourly rate (EHR) is simply the full terms pay expressed as an hourly rate so it is easier to understand.

    • Pay is paid as a lump sum at the start of the next term. [So 10 weeks : 2pm-5.30pm @ $50/hr (for example) = $1750 subject to the RPPC requirements above].  If this payment method doesn't work for you, then we can discuss something different, but the EHR will be lower if you are paid differently.

  • Whilst coaching at TST, if you demonstrate a lack of professionalism ( particularly unreliability, poor punctuality or poor communication) and we ask you to leave the program as a result, you will only be paid a base rate (which is a $20 equivalent hourly rate for the hours you coached). This discourages unprofessional coaches who intentionally join the program (and say all the right things) but then are unprofessional in some way.

  • The Full EHR is based on your commitment to coach a full term (or coach all the sessions you said you would coach at the start of term). If you start missing sessions not agreed to at the start, and can't guarantee 100% commitment to the sessions you committed to, then you will be asked to leave the program and you will only be paid at the Base EHR ($20/hr).

  • If you have to leave the program unexpectedly (mid term), you forfeit your pay for the sessions coached.  (As you are contracted to coach the full term, or less if it was agreed and you only get paid for coahcing the full term (or less if agreed).

  • In a nutshel;:

    • Act professionally, then there will not be problem.

    • If you need to leave, then do it professionally, and there will not be a problem.

    • If you know you will leave at the end of the term, let is know before the end of the term so we can find a new coach.

  • There is a  bonus system is for established coaches. Please ask about this if you think you have established yourself as a TST coach.

    • [ Note : Accruing a bonus does not mean you will automatically receive the bonus. See notes below].

  • There are 2 types of bonus.

    • If you are available to coach all the sessions in the term then there is a bonus EHR. [An Extra $$/hour over the full term]. [ So 10 weeks x 3.5 hours x $5 (say this is Bonus EHR) = $175 bonus/term]. The bonus EHR starts at $5/hour.

    • Or if you are not available to coach all sessions in a term, then you may still get paid for the sessions you miss (up to a maximum of 2 sessions per term). So if you coach 9 sessions (out of 10), you don't get the $$/hr bonus, but you do get paid for the week you missed (basically this is holiday/sick pay).

    • If a session is cancelled due to the weather, then coaches do not get paid unless agreed otherwise. [Note; If a session is cancelled then there is no income].

  • The bonus accrual usually kicks in once coaches are established. Before this there is no Bonus EHR and coaches do not get paid if they miss sessions. Also if a coach chooses to miss more than 2 sessions in a term then the bonus (sick pay/holiday pay/ bonus pay) system will not apply for the full term.

  • Bonus payments for Term 4 of the previous year, and term 1,2 & 3 this year are paid as a lump sum at the end of term 4 this year. [ So bonus is in arrears].

  • Bonus payments are conditional on meeting the professional standards outlined above.

  • If a coach leaves the program (at any time) the FULL bonus due will be paid as long as coaches have given a full terms notice that they will no longer be coaching after the end of the current term. [ This hopefully stops coaches leaving without notice, and gives us plenty of time to find a replacement. To repeat : If a FULL TERMS notice is not given then the bounus will be forfeited].

To summarise the above :

  • Make sure your plans are communicated (in writing) and agreed to (in writing) before the start of each term and there will be no issues.

  • Your commitment to TST on Saturday afternoons should come above all other commitments. One-off occasions (Like your Dads 60th etc) should be known in advance and so should be communicated well in advance (in writing) and so won't be a problem.  If you can't do this, then please do not get involved at TST.

  • New coaches:  If you can't guarantee you will work to at least to the end of a term, and be available every Saturday (in school term - not holidays) during the term you committed to, then please do not get involved at TST.

  • If there is an issue which makes this hard, then we may be able to work out something but this needs to be agreed to before you start coaching.

  • Probationary period : If you start coaching (and so agree to these terms and conditions above) but then start missing Saturday afternoons due to other commitments, then you will no longer be required as a coach at TST and you will not get paid for the sessions you have done (as you have not fulfilled the conditions of this contract) or at best you will be paid at the Base EHR ($20) for the coaching you did do.

If this is a problem then please do not start coaching with us.

Also if you simply leave the program after a few sessions then you will not get paid for the small number of sessions you did.

This is tough, yes, SO DO NOT get involved if you cannot commit.

In simple terms your pay is as follows :

  • Your pay will be FEHR if you are 100% professional (RPPC).
  • If you behave in a way that negatively affects the program and don't meet the standards of professionalism (RPPC) we ask for, the EHR will be the base rate [$20/hour] and you will be asked to leave the program.
  • If you are 100% professional but don't meet the coaching standards we need, and are asked to leave the program you will get paid at the FEHR, as agreed.
  • If you quit/leave the program mid term without a professional level notice (and dont complete the contract agreement), you will not get paid for the sessions you have done.
  • Established coaches get a bonus payment that is paid in arrears at the end of Term 4. The bonus will only be paid if the required RPPC standards have been met.

By coaching a session at TST after being given these guidelines (which includes part #2  (link below)) means you have read it, and agree to it.

If you don't agree to it then let's chat and see what the issues are.

New coaches : If you have concerns, chat to the coaches who have been at TST for a long time.

So with all this said :  Please let me know which dates/weeks that you know you will miss this term. You need to do this at the end of every term (before the next term). This is part of the RPPC standards.

If you are keen to continue coaching at TST, then make sure you update the following at the end of each term.

  1. The dates you know you will miss next term.

  2. New coaches : A copy (email) of your WWCC  :

  3. Existing coaches : A copy of your new WWCC if applicable.

  4. Your current ABN number.
