Technical Components

Below is a list of technical components that need to be developed and mastered.

Each component in this list links to a page containing example exercises which you could use to develop your technique.

We have not include every possible exercise at every possible level but instead have included exercises at the ends of the spectrum. We have included basic exercises which beginners should be able to attempt and do,  an also included what we call 'end game' exercises.

END GAME EXERCISES

End game exercises are exercises at the difficult end of the spectrum. If you can do an 'end game' component exercise then then we would suggest that you have entered the maintenance / polish phase for this component, and we would suggest that your time would now be better spent elsewhere.

How Deep do you want to Dive?

If you want to look at each technique in detail click on the link in the table. This will take you to a comprehensive library of techniques and how to develop them. Access to these resource is subscription based.

If you just want to get an idea of what to practice then use the info on this page, which offers a beginner exercise for a technical component and a possible 'end game' exercise. (Note : At an advanced level there may a be a number of end game exercises for a component, so the examples below are just the tip of the ice burg).

For example : There is a huge array of game functional juggling exercises to develop that use all the 'game functional' body parts (without venturing into  freestyle juggling). Below we only show a beginner exercise and an ' end game ' exercise, but the full array of possible juggling components is much bigger than this and you would need to be a master of all body parts.

  • Flat foot juggles
  • Toe juggles
  • Inside Juggles
  • Outside Juggles
  • Thigh Juggles
  • Head Juggles
  • Body part combinations
  • Running Juggles
  • Doing the above through constricted spaces (In and out of cones)

Check out the videos below :

  • If you are a beginner do all the beginner exercises until you become too advanced for them.
  • If you are an advanced player you should be able to do all the advanced exercises without too much trouble.
  • If you cant do the advanced exercises then you are somewhere in between, so use the links / table below to go to a particular component and find your level. keep working through the exercises until you can do all the advanced exercises.

1v1 Rules

Head up to watch the defender : Watch.....

  • The direction they move.
  • The speed they move.
  • The distance between you.
  • The way they lean.
  • The way their feet point.
  • The moment they step the wrong way.
  • The moment they take a big step.
  • Use 'moves' to create something to react against.

Beginner Level

1v1s are about the relationship between the attacker and defender. There the attacker must move the ball with the head up to see what the defender is doing. 1v1s are not about 'moves' : Moves simply change the relationship, and give the attacker something 'extra' to work off in a 1v1 moment.

Finishing rules

Like a 1v1 : Watch the basics....

  • Keepers position and movement.
  • Is the far post side netting big / Hitable?
  • Is the space between the keepers foot and post big / Hitable?
  • Is disguise necessary?
